“One of the challenges in photography is that unlike painting, which is additive, photography is reductive. In order to make a great photograph it is as important to decide what to leave out of your photograph as it is to decide what to include.”

Photography has captivated me since I was a young boy with a Kodak Brownie 127.  I cannot claim to have any images from that period of any worth but by the time I was at university studying chemistry the skills I was acquiring translated well to the darkroom and I do have one or 2 images from this time that I can look back on with satisfaction.

I have explored a wide variety of photographic genres and styles over the years and this broad appreciation helps me as a Judge with the Surrey Photographic Association. I am now a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and in January of 2023 I became an RPS Licentiate panel member assessing Licentiate Distinctions submissions.

Whilst I enjoy most genres of photography, I always want to come back to the landscape and I never feel more alive than when I am outdoors, anticipating the moment when the magic might happen: the light, weather and landscape combine to create art in front of me and I am there to capture it.

I have had images shortlisted and commended in the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition in various years, the International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, The Siena International Photography Awards, The Travel Photographer of the Year, British Photography Awards and The Epson Pano Awards. I am a major contributor of images to local National Trust properties where I run workshops.
